          On a wonderful Thursday night, July 27, 2023, a diverse community of passionate architects came together. They gathered with a shared goal: to attend and express support to the first-ever General Membership Meeting (GMM) for the Fiscal year 2023-2024, hosted by the outstanding United Architects of the Philippines – Davao Chapter. The GMM was held at the D’Leonor Hotel, J.P. Laurel Avenue, Davao City.

The meeting commenced with an opening prayer led by Ar. Zyrra Glodove, Director - Membership. It was followed by Ar. John Paul Aloy, Director - Membership, as he introduced the meeting’s sponsor, Home Solutions Depot Plus. As the presenter precedes the meeting with the product presentation of Home Solutions with its goal of providing quality home finishing and furnishing products that pay utmost attention to excellent customer service, he was later presented with a plaque of appreciation from the Chapter.

Much to the delight of everyone, dinner commenced right after. Everyone shared the delicious meal prepared by the staff of D’Leonor. As dinner progressed, the room hummed with joyous conversations, laughter, and the clinking of cutlery against plates.

As dinner ended, it’s now time to introduce the honored guest speaker of the night, Ar. Khashayar L. Toghyani, Officer-In-Charge from the Office of the City Building Official. Ar. Toghyani hooked the attention of everyone with his topic: “Open Forum Discussion: Embracing Digitalization and OCBO’s Stance on Construction Prerequisites”. This topic engaged the attention of many architects, especially since it’s a new streamlined system implemented by the OCBO. This resulted in a fruitful discussion with the audience. He was also later presented with a plaque of appreciation from the Chapter given by Chapter President Sheanna Bacus-Melocoton and Chapter secretary, Ar. Lalinka Fe Regalado.

Opening to a great start, the President called the meeting to order with a strong bang of the gavel. The meeting formally began with the cue of the National anthem of the Philippines, followed by the UAP march, and lastly the architect’s credo.

As the program continued, President Sheanna Bacus gave her warm welcome and thanksgiving to all attendees. She briefly introduced herself and proceeded with the introduction of the UAP Davao’s new set of officers for the Fiscal year 2023-2024.

The program advanced with Ar. Lalinka Regalado taking over to conduct a roll call of the attendees. She began by acknowledging the presence of our ever-supportive roster of Past Presidents. She went on to recognize the presence of the newly licensed architects who have chosen to be a part of UAP Davao. With a thoughtful nudge from Past president Gilbert Fortich, the new members were called to the stage to be recognized and welcomed by everyone. And last but not least, she recognized the presence of the online attendees and the rest of the membership.

The meeting went on to the next agenda led by the Chapter Treasurer, Ar. Gimelle Butas who concisely presented the fundamental information about the Chapter and IAPOA fees and deadlines.

As the meeting continued, one by one, the agenda was presented and discussed. The president went over the agenda as follows:

1. Presentation of Board Resolution:

• Presentation of Evaluation survey
• New member’s chapter dues
• Security of bank online access
• Regularization of Ms. Divina Janiola as Asst. administrative staff effective August 1, 2023

1. Presentation of New platform app for chapter announcements.
2. Presentation of the calendar of activities.
3. Other matters:

• Office renovation
• October 26-28, 2023 – National conference of architects + area assemblies 2023
• September 8, 2023 – Induction of the New officers and new members.

To gracefully lead the program to a close, the GMM ended with a closing prayer led by the chapter auditor, Ar. Joshua Lasa and adjourned by President Bacus. The successful membership meeting marked a new chapter for the organization. The approved initiatives will soon be set into motion, and the chapter will thrive with positive changes.
