On August 22, 2024, the UAP Davao Chapter convened for its 2nd General Membership Meeting (GMM) at Balai Inato, located in Juna Subdivision, Davao City. This event, which saw participation from 107 members—both online and in person—was characterized by an intimate atmosphere facilitating productive discussions and meaningful interactions among the attendees. The meeting was graciously sponsored by HD Homelift Solutions, which held silver sponsorship, while Decora Architectural Finishes by JVA Global Enterprise contributed as a Minor sponsor, and Davies Paints was recognized as a Patron. A celebratory component of the gathering included a birthday celebration for chapter members, adding a personal touch to the professional environment.
The meeting began with the Secretary`s report, highlighting the distribution of Memorandum Circular #13 S.2024. This circular encouraged UAP members to support and participate in the 4th Liturgical Architecture Conference actively. The emphasis on participation in such conferences underscores the chapter`s commitment to fostering continuous education and engagement within the field of architecture. Following this, the Treasurer`s report and insights from the Auditor were presented. Although minor clarifications were sought, the members accepted both reports, demonstrating the chapter`s dedication to transparency and good governance in its financial dealings.
The President`s report provided a comprehensive overview of upcoming activities and events engaging chapter members in the coming months. The President began by recounting a significant recent event—the Groundbreaking Ceremony at the Philippine Eagle Center, which took place on August 17. This collaborative project involved several organizations, including the Philippine Eagle Foundation, Mandai Wildlife Conservation, and artist Kublai, showcasing the chapter`s commitment to environmental conservation and community engagement. Such initiatives highlight the role of architects not only as designers of spaces but also as stewards of the environment.
Looking ahead, the President outlined several critical events scheduled for the upcoming months. On August 26, the D1A Joint Induction for District Council and Chapter officers is set to occur at the Park Inn by Radisson in Lanang, Davao City. The National Board of Directors will attend this induction ceremony, further strengthening the ties between local chapters and the national organization. Following that, on September 8, the UAP Davao Chapter will host its New Members Induction at Apo View, located on J. Camus Street in Davao City. This event is expected to draw a substantial crowd, with around 200 members, inductees, guests, and industry partners, emphasizing the chapter`s growing influence and outreach within the architectural community.
The Philippine Architecture and Allied Arts Festival (PAAAF), scheduled for September 25-27 at the Atrium of the City Government Complex in Tagum City, Davao del Norte, was also highlighted. This festival, supported by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), presents a unique opportunity for architects and allied professionals to showcase their work and engage with the public. The festival is essential for networking, sharing innovative ideas, and promoting the architectural profession.
Additionally, the UAP Davao Chapter is set to participate in a Halloween Run on November 3 in collaboration with Strider. This event is a fun community activity and serves a greater purpose, as the proceeds will benefit Boys Town, Davao, aligning with the chapter`s Corporate Social Responsibility program. This initiative reflects the chapter`s commitment to giving back to the community and promoting health and wellness among its members and the public.
One of the most significant highlights of the GMM was the approval of three Board Resolutions. The first resolution, which amends Board Resolution No. 1 for the fiscal year 2023-24, pertains to establishing House Rules for General Membership Meetings. This amendment is pending revision, which shows the chapter`s adaptability and willingness to evolve its governance practices to serve its members better. The second resolution amends Chapter Resolution #3 S. 2023 concerning the new status of chapter members, reflecting the ongoing development and engagement strategies the chapter is implementing. The third resolution focuses on establishing alternative in-person participation options, catering to members who cannot attend meetings physically, and promoting inclusivity and broader participation.
These three Board Resolutions were ratified, approved, and seconded, solidifying them as Standing Chapter Resolutions. This approval enhances the chapter`s operational framework and reinforces the members` commitment to active participation in governance and decision-making processes.
As the evening progressed, members were allowed to engage in discussions, share insights, and network with one another. The intimate setting allowed for open dialogue, fostering community among new and existing members. The GMM concluded successfully at 9:45 PM, with a group photo opportunity capturing the camaraderie and collective spirit of the UAP Davao Chapter members. The event served as a platform for important announcements and reports and a celebration of the shared passion for architecture and commitment to professional development. The strong turnout and engagement reflected the chapter`s vitality and its role in promoting excellence within the architectural profession in Davao City.
In summary, the UAP Davao Chapter`s 2nd GMM was a significant event reinforcing its mission to engage, educate, and empower its members. Through collaborative initiatives, transparent governance, and community-oriented events, the chapter continues to build a robust network of professionals dedicated to advancing the architectural profession while making meaningful contributions to society.
One Strong UAP!
